Your Case will Benefit from a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist

Selecting the most qualified and dedicated attorney is a crucial decision to handle your Family Law matters. So many attorneys are “generalists,” and sometimes even advertise themselves on their websites as handling several practice areas (e.g. Business Litigation, Estate Planning, Personal Injury, Bankruptcy, and Divorce) – suggesting that they are a “Jack of all Trades”. Unfortunately, in the complex world of the law, that often means: “Master of None…”

California Board of Legal SpecializationWe are Certified Family Law Specialists – In sharp contrast to run of the mill general practice attorneys, a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist, is one who has proven to other lawyers, judges and the California State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization that they have maintained a dedicated focus on one specific law section where they have proven top-drawer expertise, had the advanced educational accomplishments, had the courtroom experience, were reviewed by other Certified Specialist lawyers & judges and then were awarded the title of Certified Family Law Specialist.

Becoming a Certified Specialist in Family Law

To be certified by the State Bar of California, a lawyer must:

  • Have engaged in the area of certification for at least 25 percent over the last five years
  • Be an active member of the State Bar of California
  • Pass a written exam
  • Show a high level of experience and achievement in the area
  • Complete at least 45 hours of continuing legal education in their selected area
  • Be in favorable standing with peers and judges

Certification as a specialist in family law requires that the attorney demonstrate considerable experience in handling family law matters including:

  • Child custody and visitation
  • Spousal support /alimony
  • Child support
  • Property division

The lawyer must also show substantial involvement in the family law area, as demonstrated by court, hearing and counseling participation.
